A brass submarine with a young explorer inside, drifting through sunlit water beside a glowing jellyfish. The slide reads: You do not have to feel ready to build what's next.

You do not have to feel ready

You do not have to feel ready to build what's next.

Picture a small brass submarine easing into deep water. The explorer inside has not memorised a map. She has no guarantee of what is down there. But she has a window, a lamp and a curious heart, and that turns out to be enough to begin.

Most of us wait for a feeling. We wait until we know more, until we have been given the title, until the timing is right. We tell ourselves that readiness will arrive one day, like a train, and that we will board when it does.

It rarely comes. Readiness is not a platform you reach before the journey. It is something you gather in the water.

What this talk is, and is not

This is not a talk about becoming a programmer in twenty five minutes. It is about what happens when the distance between an idea and a first useful version gets smaller.

We will explore GitHub AI and the agentic software development lifecycle. But underneath the technology sits a very human question:

How do we find the confidence to build what is next?

Try this

Take a moment and think of one thing you have been waiting to feel ready for. Hold it lightly. By the end of these chapters, you will have a small, practical way to begin.
