Flamingo illustration about AI making mistakes

Chapter 07 / 17

AI can be very wrong

An AI answer can sound convincing and still be mistaken. A flamingo is a useful reminder to stop and check the details.

Confident is not correct

A tool might misidentify an animal or invent a fact about it. Its words may be fluent even when its evidence is missing.

Check before sharing

Compare important claims with reliable sources and ask a person who knows the subject. If an answer seems surprising, that is a good reason to investigate.

Priya checks a flamingo fact

Priya's class quiz tool announced that flamingos were born bright pink. It sounded certain, but Priya remembered seeing grey chicks in a nature book. She checked a library book and a wildlife website with her teacher.

Both explained that young flamingos are greyish and their colour changes as they grow, partly because of pigments in their food. Priya corrected the quiz note. She learned that a confident answer is still only a claim until you check good evidence. Checking helped Priya make the class answer stronger.

A real-life example

If an AI helper gives you a surprising fact for homework, compare it with a book or a trusted website. Ask a teacher or librarian if the sources disagree.

Check a claim

  1. Choose a surprising animal fact from a book or lesson.
  2. Find a second reliable source about it.
  3. Compare what each source says and who created it.
  4. Write down what you trust and what you still want to ask.
